Wet weather affects music stage

The festival used to take place in Reading

The wet weather has caused problems at the Womad Festival in Wiltshire with one stage having to be closed.

The event is being held at Charlton Park, Malmesbury, for the first time after 17 years at Rivermead, Berkshire.

Organisers had warned people to be prepared for wet weather. Co-founder Peter Gabriel played at the event over the weekend.

Acts appearing also include Baaba Maal, Toots and the Maytals, Isaac Hayes, Seckou Keita Quartet and Taj Mahal.

Two days of heavy rain had deteriorated the condition of the ground.

Since 1988, other Womad festivals have taken place at different locations around the world.

Former Genesis star Gabriel endorsed the decision to move the principal site to Wiltshire, saying: "it just felt that there was beginning to be a negative noise about Reading".
