Promoters said they had 'no option' but to cancel

A month ago organisers postponed the event, which was originally due to be on 13-15 July, blaming the bad weather.

Now they say it has proved impossible to re-book acts for later in the summer for the city's Singleton Park.

"Unfortunately, we cannot find a date that suits all parties," said promoters Straight Music. Ticket-holders can get refunds from the point of purchase.

The Fflam Festival was billed as an event which it was hoped would become as popular as Scotland's annual T in the Park.

''Conspired'

More than 50 bands were booked to play with hopes of crowds of up to 30,000 people per day.

Organisers Straight Music said the decision was taken "with great regret."

The spokesman added: "After the initial postponement due to torrential weather conditions, we have made every possible effort to try and secure a new date for the festival this summer.

"At this stage, we are left with no option but to cancel the festival for 2007 and put all our efforts into making it a huge success in 2008.

"We would like to thank all the people in the local community who have stuck by us and supported us throughout the past couple of months."

A Swansea Council spokesman said Fflam would have been a "wonderful addition" to the events being staged in the city.

"Although this was not a council event, we worked with the promoters right up until the last possible moment and gave them every opportunity to make Fflam a success," he said.

"Unfortunately, a number of events have conspired against the promoters and it has not been possible for them to stage the event this year."
