A major 40m road improvement scheme in Stoke-on-Trent is on budget and on time, according to the Highways Agency. It is a year since road works started on the A500, which joins junctions 15 and 16 of the M6 in a D-shape via Stoke-on-Trent.
The improvements, on Stoke Road and City Road, are to end next summer.
In the past year 22m people have driven through the road works. So far engineers have removed more than 120,000 tonnes of earth.
Constructing new underpasses and bridges has already used up 11,500 cubic metres of concrete.
Although the road works have caused major traffic problems, the Highways Agency says motorists have been understanding and it is hoped when the project is complete the route will be quicker and safer.
