Drivers caught dodging roadworks
Police in Staffordshire have issued a warning over actions taken by drivers to avoid roadworks.

The works have been in place on the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent since August last year as part of the 40m Pathfinder Project to ease congestion.

The project also aims to help the city's economic regeneration.

On Friday afternoon motorists were seen by police on CCTV cameras reversing back through slip roads after spotting queues of traffic.

David Bailey from Staffordshire Police says officers are worried it is going to lead to serious accidents.

"It is very disappointing that people are prepared to risk their lives and the lives of other people in order to avoid a queue of traffic.

"Drivers are accelerating down the slip roads and would be unaware of drivers coming the other way driving their cars in reverse.

"It really is an inappropriate and dangerous thing to be doing."

The Highways Agency are working with Stoke City Council to relieve congestion on the A500 at the Stoke Road and City Road junctions as well as improve the road's transport links.
