Emergency plans tested for Ascot
York racecourse
The races take place from 14-18 June
Emergency planners in North Yorkshire have ended two days of testing contingency plans created to deal with any emergencies during Royal Ascot.

Event organisers worked with police and the City of York Council to work out how to evacuate York racecourse .

A number of possible major incident scenarios were acted out to prepare for the 60,000 people who are expected every day of the five-day event.

A centre at Fulford Road Police Station would co-ordinate any operation.

This year's Ascot races are being held at York in June while the Berkshire course is redeveloped.

Rail company GNER is also preparing for the influx of race goers with extra staff being drafted onto the platforms during the event.

Plans are also under way for a festival in the city to coincide with the race meeting.
