Station prepares for Royal Ascot
York racecourse
The royal meeting is coming to York in 2005
Access to York railway station is be restricted during next week's Ebor race meeting as a preparation for Royal Ascot.

All passengers will have to show valid tickets as they enter or leave the station on the three Ebor days.

Normally, there is unrestricted access to the platforms at York.

Rail company GNER says it is having to prepare for the thousands of extra visitors expected to travel to York during Royal Ascot week in June 2005.

Extra staff

The famous meeting is being moved to York while the Berkshire course is redeveloped.

GNER station operations manager Wayne Kyte said there will be extra staff on duty on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week when the Ebor meeting is held.

"The trial arrangements will create the maximum level of safety for our staff and passengers, whether or not they are racegoers," he added.

"They're also intended to help protect revenues for the four main train operators who serve York."
