The Conservatives in Devon are claiming a good result at the polls in what turned out to be a bad result for Labour. The biggest gain for the Tories was the taking of Plymouth City Council from Labour in what has been a fiercely-fought battleground.
The party also gained control in North Devon and gained seats in Torbay, West Devon, East Devon and Torridge.
But in South Hams, Tory leader Richard Younge lost his seat to the Lib Dems.
Labour managed to hold on to the largest number of seats in Exeter, despite their leader losing his.
Roy Slack has been in local politics for 30 years but that all ended when he lost his seat by 23 votes.
The Conservatives also made gains at Mid Devon District Council.
And despite some disappointing results in Devon, the Liberal Democrats gained four more councillors at Teignbridge.
Elections were also held for hundreds of parish councillors.
