TT bosses drop Supersport race
Ryan Farquhar in TT action
The races take place from 27 May to 9 June
A race has been dropped from this year's Isle of Man TT Races over safety concerns.

Organisers of the event, which takes place from 27 May to 9 June, announced the official programme on Wednesday.

TT Team and Rider liaison Officers Richard Quayle and Paul Phillips said only one Supersport race will be held for 600cc machines this year.

Mr Phillips said it was deemed too dangerous to run two races due to a high mechanical failure rate.

Safety always has to be our number one concern
David Cretney MHK

Mr Phillips said: "Last year there were two races for one sort of bike, the Supersport bike.

"But there was quite a lot of mechanical breakdown on the second race.

"We took advice from engine builders and decided to drop the second race as a precaution.

The prize fund for this race will be reinvested into the overall start and prize money fund.

Senior TT

The racing will be brought to a close with the six-lap Senior TT.

The Senior Race will be open to all solo classes and this year will also offer prize money for the first three 600cc machines to finish.

Programme TT Coordinating Committee Chairman and Minister for the Isle of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure, David Cretney MHK said: "Safety always has to be our number one concern when it comes to the racing.

"We are confident we have found the right balance with this new schedule, which has already been warmly received by the majority of competitors, teams and manufactures."
