TT race fan plans police protest
A TT races enthusiast is asking other fans to join him in a protest at police on the Isle of Man being withdrawn from on-course race and practice duty.

The force recently announced it was too dangerous for officers to stand on the course but they would be available for rapid call outs to fatal incidents.

Pete Tyer said there were instances where an officer being present is needed as a deterrent.

He is asking fellow fans to join him on a protest ride on Sunday, 4 September.

Health and safety

He said: "I ride the course and have also marshalled and I've stopped people from crossing the circuit.

"It's not the marshals' job to control that."

Race marshal chief Roger Hurst has downplayed police's decision, saying it would not have major implications and there was hardly any change.

The Isle of Man's Chief Constable Mike Culverhouse said he had taken the decision because he was concerned about his officers' safety following changes to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
