John McGuinness triumphed in the Senior TT race on Friday |
The deaths of a rider and steward overshadowed John McGuinness' victory in the Senior TT race in the Isle of man on Friday. Englishman Gus Scott (40) from Kendal, and Isle of Man resident April Bolster died in an incident on the second lap at Kirk Michael.
Morecambe rider McGuinness who also won the Superbike event, set a lap record of 127.33mph as he clinched a double.
Welshman Ian Lougher was second with Guy Martin of Lincolnshire third.
McGuinness was 35 seconds clear of Lougher in the final race of the meeting.
Lusk's Martin Finnegan was fourth but it was a disappointing race for the Ulster contingent with Enniskillen's Richard Britton the best in fifth.
Britton was lying second after four laps but his chain came off and he dropped back.
Ballymoney's Adrian Archibald was just six seconds behind McGuinness when he was forced out with a flat tyre on the second lap.
Dungannon rider Ryan Farquhar, winner of the second supersport race on Wednesday, retired on the third lap at Parliament Square in Ramsey.
Sunday Grandstand on BBC2 has coverage of the TT at 1135BST.
