Airline commits itself to Rocks
Le Cocqs aircraft
Le Cocqs will change its name in September
A Channel Island-based airline is changing its name to coincide with the start of a new service between Jersey and Guernsey.

Le Cocqs Airlink is to become known as Rockhopper in a change which it hopes will emphasise its commitment to Channel Island routes.

It will compete with the Guernsey States-owned airline Aurigny Air Services between the islands.

The name change will officially come into effect on 22 September.

The move coincides with the start of its new service between Guernsey and Jersey.

Company chairman Noel Hayes said the new title is a statement of the airline's intentions to stay true to its roots.

He said: "I think if we'd been planning to become the next Virgin Atlantic of this world, we wouldn't have chosen the name Rockhopper.

"But what we're trying to demonstrate is that by specifically linking our name with the airline that services the Rocks, that's where we're going to continue.

"Yes, it'd be nice to see the business get a bit bigger, but we don't have ambitions to become a major international player."
