The charges are set by the Board of Administration |
An airline boss has voiced concern about planned increases to security charges at Guernsey and Alderney airports. Malcom Hart, managing director of Aurigny Air Services, is worried the proposals could have a negative impact on the number of people choosing to fly to the Bailiwick for their holidays.
Mr Hart said his firm had expected a "modest" increase in charges but is disappointed by the 30% rise being proposed.
The charges are set by the Board of Administration.
'Adds 50,000'
"No-one would quibble with the need for security," said Mr Hart.
"But I was disappointed when the "modest" increase was 30%.
"It adds another 50,00 to our bill and I've written to the Board for some transparency on these charges and hope to have a reply in the next few days."
He says regardless of whether the costs are incurred by the airline or as a tax on ticket prices, passengers will end up paying in the long run.
The issue will be debated in the States later this month.
