Rival speaks out over air decision
Aurigny airplane
The 5m purchase of Aurigny was confirmed on Wednesday
A Channel Islands airline has described the States decision to buy Aurigny Air Services as a "return to the Aeroflot era".

Le Cocqs Airlink is now reviewing its future and is seeking firm legal guarantees that the States will not favour its own airline above other carriers.

The airline, which is the first to introduce competition with Aurigny on inter-island flights in quarter of a century, has threatened to withdraw its Jersey-Alderney service before it even gets off the ground.

Safeguard link

Bookings were frozen on the Le Cocqs Airlink route before the States debate on Wednesday afternoon.

LeCocqs Airlink flies from Jersey to Bournemouth and was due to start operating from Jersey to Alderney next month.

The airline has said it will honour bookings already made on the route.

The States is buying Aurigny following British Airways' (BA) shock decision to stop flying to Guernsey.

From 16 June, BA will no longer run its service from Gatwick because its current aircraft are being retired and it says it cannot justify replacing them.

By buying Aurigny, Guernsey's States could safeguard the airlink between Guernsey and Gatwick.
