Waterfront hotel work may restart

Work on the hotel stopped two years ago after funding was cut
Funding for a hotel on Jersey's waterfront could be announced by the end of the year.

The Waterfront Enterprise Board (WEB) is waiting to hear what has been decided by way of financing the project.

Work on the hotel was halted two years ago when funding was withdrawn because of the economic effect of the 11 September attacks in America.

WEB managing director David Margason said he expected work to start on the hotel next year and for it to open early in 2006.

Newsletter distributed

Meanwhile, WEB is waiting to hear when Les Pas Holdings will start developing the land given to them by the States.

WEB has sent a newsletter to all island homes to get ideas for the land that has not yet been developed.

Land worth 10m has been given to Les Pas in an out of court settlement with the States.

The company has, in principle, permission to build flats there.

Mr Margason said it would not affect future plans for the area.

The WEB wants to involve the public more in the development process, with quarterly public meetings, a newsletter and a group to represent businesses and residents in the area.

The WEB is a limited company owned by the States of Jersey and set up in 1996 to oversee the development of the St Helier waterfront.
