Alcohol-related offences are increasing
Concern is growing in Guernsey over the number of people arrested for alcohol-related offences in the island.

The Chairman of the Crime Prevention Panel, Andrew Ozanne, says the large number of arrests last weekend is a continuation of a worrying trend in the island.

Mr Ozanne says many people like a drink in the sunshine, but a few people can spoil the day for the majority.

He says society should make more of an effort to cope with the problem of drinking.

Sensible level

He thinks the community should make it more unacceptable for people to get drunk.

Mr Ozanne says problems this weekend, when there were more than 30 arrests, did not get out of hand.

He thinks that if people cannot cope with drinking alcohol at a sensible level, then they should not be drinking at all and risk upsetting other members of the public trying to enjoy a day out.
