Hinda Hicks, multiple MOBO and Brits nominee, is back with her new album and going it alone. Hear her talk to Ras Kwame...
Hinda on going independent "I have the label, I am the artist. I'm in complete control of the direction... producers... mixing... mastering... everything! It's wonderful to know the buck stops here. I have the last say."
On expectations
"We did it ourselves. There's so much reward just knowing that."
Life on a major label "Whilst you're in a record label situation, you've always got someone telling you 'you should do this'... What are you gonna do? They sign the cheques."
On direction
"At the time I thought I knew what I wanted to do, now I know that I'm doing what I want to do."
"I've got the balance between my love of hip hop, my love of jazz, my love of soul, and am able to fuse it all together and make my sound"
On basketball
"I was a shooter... I used to play for a few teams... I coached a basketball team."
