Older aluminium doors can be easily broken into as the frame can be jemmied or lifted out.
One option is to replace aluminium patio doors with British Standard PVCu - but this can be costly. Alternatively you can additionally secure existing patio doors by adding patio door locks.
These are additional push bolt locks which are normally fitted to the top and bottom of a sliding door.
It is also advisable to fit an anti-lift device. This simple fixture is solid and fitted into the top track of a sliding door to prevent the door being lifted easily once in the locked position.
