We continually review your feedback and suggestions for the BBC's mobile apps. This week, we begin rolling out a new vertical layout for your BBC Weather app.

Why is the layout changing?

For over a decade, the BBC Weather app's simple design served us well.

However, as the variety of mobile devices and screen sizes has increased, well-established app standards have emerged, and it has become increasingly complex to retain our static layout.

More importantly, the layout offered little space to introduce new features – particularly on smaller devices, where data was very cramped.

How is the app layout changing?

We're flipping the layout of our main forecast screen to one which scrolls vertically. We're moving hourly forecasts beneath the day tabs. Swiping horizontally now navigates between locations.

By moving to a vertical layout, we unlock infinite space to incorporate new features in future, including more detailed forecast information and the ability to adjust text size.

When can I expect to see the new layout?

The BBC Weather app's new layout started rolling out to Android devices this week.

An update for iOS devices will follow in December.
