Ian Woosnam and Bradley Dredge ended the 131st Open Championship on a high note by carding their best rounds of the week on Sunday.

The Welshmen made the most of the calm conditions at Muirfield to shoot three-under-par rounds of 68.

David Park, though, had a disastrous nine-over-par round of 80, which included an 11 on the par three 13th.

He played no fewer than eight shots in a deep greenside bunker, trying various ways to get out before he finally made it to the cheers of the crowd.

Woosnam had promised to go for broke in the final round in an attempt to climb the leaderboard.

He did not quite manage the birdie blitz which would have taken him among the early clubhouse leaders, but the Welshman was satisfied with a tidy round.

The birdies came at the third, 10th, 13th and 15th, with the sole bogey coming at the par five ninth.

That gave him one-over-par total of 285 for the championship.
