Triathletes Anneliese Heard and Leanda Cave are hoping to secure their places in the Welsh Commonwealth Games team at the weekend.

The duo take part in the Dutch Open Championships in Zundert on Sunday, 2 June, knowing good displays could catapult them into Manchester contention.

Heard has had a tough first season in the senior ranks following a shin injury which ruled her out for three months.

However, after finishing in sixth position in the British Triathlon Championships, Heard is gearing up for the major event of the year.

Cycling fall

She said: "It's been difficult dealing with this injury so close to the Commonwealths, but I'm happy with the way things are going.

"It's been quite difficult to get back on top of things, but I've got about nine weeks now to prepare so I should be fully fit by then."

Cave is looking to bounce back from a cycling fall in the British Triathlon Championships, saying: "I'm really lucky I didn't break anything as it could have been a lot worse.

"I'm looking forward now to the Commonwealth Games. My training's going well and if selected, my aim is to come home with a medal, ideally gold."
