Harris staying in union
Iestyn Harris on the charge for Leeds
Harris will not be heading back to Leeds
Cardiff team manager Derwyn Jones has squashed rumours that rugby league convert Iestyn Harris could be heading back north.

With the Welsh rugby union engaged in a series of cost-cutting measures, Harris has been linked with a return to Leeds Rhinos.

The fly-half has struggled to adapt to union and was left out of the Cardiff side that lost to Ulster in the Heineken Cup on Saturday.

But Jones told BBC Wales that there had been no approach for Harris and that he was staying at Cardiff.

"Neither Cardiff nor the WRU have heard anything about a transfer," said Jones.

"Iestyn has a contract with the club and the Union."

There have been signs this season that the fly-half is finding his feet and he will be targeting the autumn's World Cup in Australia.

However, Leeds rugby chief executive Gary Hetherington is monitoring the situation and would be keen on a move for Harris.

"We have always envisaged Iestyn Harris coming back to us," he said.

It is understood that Leeds have first refusal on the player if he decides to give up on the 15-man code.

Harris' contract allows him to return to rugby league in 2004, if he so chooses.
