| Saints denied Cup switch ![]() Saints will play two big games in six days St Helens coach Ian Millward has failed to persuade rugby league chiefs to bring forward his side's Powergen Challenge Cup clash with Union Treiziste Catalane. Millward wanted the fourth-round tie in Perpignan switched to Friday, 7 February to give his team more time to prepare for the World Club Challenge. But the match with UTC will take place the following day at 1930 GMT, just six days before the clash with NRL champions Sydney Roosters.
St Helens are aiming to complete a hat-trick of victories for British clubs in the World Cub Challenge. Millward's side triumphed over Brisbane Broncos in 2001 while Bradford Bulls beat Newcastle Knights last year. But the Super League champions must first face a determined UTC, who have been given the nod to enter Super League in 2005. "I know nothing about them, although I had a quick look at the team that played Gateshead and there are a few familiar faces," said Millward. "You've got to remember that they are getting close to Super League and this will be a big night for them." | See also: 28 Jan 03 | Rugby League 27 Jan 03 | Rugby League Top Challenge Cup stories now: Links to more Challenge Cup stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
