Lam lands July honour
Wigan's Adrian Lam is BBC Sport Online's Rugby League Personality of the Month for July.

The Papua New Guinea ace earned the accolade for his starring roles in the wins over St Helens, Halifax and Widnes.

Brave and full of creativity, he is what a real scrum-half should be

The Warriors also drew with Castleford as they stepped up their bid for a top-two finish in the Tetley's Super League.

BBC Sport's Ray French said Lam's contribution had been crucial to Wigan's cause given that they had been weakened by the loss of several big names.

"In the absence of skipper Andy Farrell, Adrian took on the captaincy and led from the front," said the veteran commentator.

"He has also played a key role in guiding the youngsters in the Wigan team, filling them with confidence so they do not feel out of place."

French added: "Adrian shows to everyone what halfback play is all about.

"Brave and full of creativity, he is what a real scrum-half should be."

Lam helped steer Wigan to Challenge Cup success
Phil Gordos, Sport Online's rugby league editor, said Lam had shown that the Warriors were not a one-man team and could survive without the inspirational Farrell.

"Much has been made of Farrell's importance to Wigan, but Lam's recent contribution is the chief reason the Warriors are breathing down the necks of Bradford and Saints as the race for the play-offs hots up," said Gordos.

"The news that he is staying put at the JJB Stadium for another season at least will give his coach, his team-mates and the fans a massive boost."

Past winners of the award include Widnes coach Neil Kelly, London skipper Jason Hetherington, Huddersfield chief Tony Smith and St Helens boss Ian Millward.
