| Wednesday, 13 November, 2002, 22:40 GMT Henrietta Knight ![]() Biddlecombe and Knight are a formidable team Since taking out her licence in 1989, Knight has built up a stable full of quality horses. A former biology teacher, Knight's equine career began in the world of eventing.
This has undoubtedly influenced her approach to training, which complements the more hard-headed expertise of her assistant trainer and husband, former champion jockey Terry Biddlecombe. Much of her success has come from horses owned by Jim Lewis, who contacted her after reading an article about her in a magazine. He has provided her with three of her Cheltenham festival winners - firstly with Edredon Bleu, who won the Grand Annual in 1998 and a thrilling Champion Chase in 2000. Last season brought the icing on the cake with Best Mate, who captured the Gold Cup and could well retain that title in the coming years. Knight's first Cheltenham winner came with Karshi, owned by her brother-in-law (and chairman of Cheltenham racecourse) Lord Vestey. |
