| Saturday, 15 February, 2003, 17:31 GMT Glens coast through ![]() Andy Smith on the target again for Glentoran Ballyclare 0-3 Glentoran Glentoran cruised into the Irish Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable victory at Dixon Park. The pitch more than the opposition was Glentoran's biggest problem with the hard frost-bitten ground making life difficult for a passing game. But Glentoran did enough to ease past their First Division opponents once they opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Tim McCann and Darren Armour can take credit for causing panic in the Ballyclare defence before defender Robert Budden pushed the ball into his own net. Glentoran continued to press hard in the first half and were rewarded with a great Scott Young strike when he rifled home from 15 yards after Armour had chested the ball down. Ballyclare rarely troubled Glentoran who had to wait until midway through the second half to increase their lead. Young and McCann were again instrumental in the build-up from deep. The ball found its way into the danger area, and Andy Smith was on hand to scramble the ball over the line. Glentoran goalkeeper Elliott Morris who was fairly redundant throughout, had to look sharp in the second half on a couple of occasions to stop the home side scoring. |
