| Friday, 20 September, 2002, 18:27 GMT 19:27 UK Woods marches on ![]() The world number one matched his own course record Tiger Woods increased his lead to two strokes in the World Golf Championship at Mount Juliet after a second successive 65. The world number one matched the course record he set in the first round to move to 14 under par in the $1m event.
And the American domination at the top of the leaderboard continues with David Toms and Steve Lowery one shot further back. Woods has yet to make a bogey and after struggling with his driver on day one, felt his game was in better shape after the second round. "I drove the ball a little better," said Woods. "I hit my irons like I did yesterday and I putted like I did yesterday. "All in all, I'm very pleased with my play."
"The bigger the tournament, the harder they should make the golf course," said Woods. "The reason why the scores are so low is the greens are so perfect. You can have 20-30-footers and feel confident you can make that putt." The leading non-American is South African Retief Goosen, who is on 10 under, while two closing birdies put England's Gary Evans in contention a shot back. Open champion Ernie Els carded a five-under 67 to join Evans and Australian Stuart Appleby on nine-under for the tournament. The best placed European Ryder Cup member was again Sweden's Niclas Fasth, who shot a 69 to go seven under. And there was bad news for the Europeans with the form of Darren Clarke, who lies in last place on seven over after a 76. |
