| Monday, 16 September, 2002, 07:50 GMT 08:50 UK Sheehan turns up the heat ![]() Sheehan is full of confidence US captain Patty Sheehan says her side are favourites to beat Europe in Friday's seventh Solheim Cup match in Edina, Minnesota Europe have never achieved victory on US soil and Sheehan does not think that record is about to change. She said: "Playing at home is a huge advantage and I think we must be favourites. "It's always nice to have the fans onside and see so many red, white and blue flags. Sheehan also responded to Catrin Nilsmark's recent criticism of some of the US players. Swede Nilsmark, who takes over from Dale Reid as European captain after the match, had reeled off a string of stinging quotes on a Swedish website. US in front Nilsmark said that Laura Diaz had "a cocky attitude", Michele Redman was a "complete lack of talent" and Cristie Kerr "a small brat". But Sheehan refused to enter a slanging match. Instead, she said: "It's wonderful. It's brought a lot of attention to the Solheim Cup and it's always fun to add that little bit of spice." "My players are really excited about the week and they are all in great form. My side is ready to peak at just the right time." The US lead Europe by four victories to two in the Solheim Cup, the Ryder Cup of women's professional golf. |
