Mattiace storms to victory
Len Mattiace
Mattiace had five birdies in the last eight holes

Len Mattiace overcame a seven-stroke deficit to win the St Jude Classic in Memphis.

The American birdied five of the last eight holes to join Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the only players on the US tour to have won more than one title this season.

Mattiace's seven-under-par round of 64 was in contrast to the 77 scored by overnight leader Glen Hnatiuk.

I didn't look at the scoreboard at all. I didn't feel like I needed to. I knew I just needed to keep making birdies
Len Mattiace

Hnatiuk had led from the first round and had a four-shot cushion going into the final round but had the worst score of the day to end up tied for 14th.

It is the second PGA title for 34-year-old Mattiace, who also won the Nissan Open earlier this season.

PGA Tour rookie Tim Petrovic staked a late claim for a first career title but narrowly missed a 35-foot birdie putt on the final hole to finish one shot behind Mattiace.

Notah Begay, who won here two years ago, was third, with US PGA champion David Toms in fourth.
