| Sunday, 30 June, 2002, 02:38 GMT 03:38 UK Inkster moves into lead Inkster has won the event twice before Juli Inkster moved into the lead after the second round of the Shoprite LPGA Classic in Atlantic City. Inkster, champion in 1986 and 1988, lay one shot off the lead after the first round but a 67 was enough to put her one shot ahead of overnight leader Kate Golden. Among those also up with the pace is world number one Annika Sorenstam.
The Swede shot 67 to lie three off the lead. Britain's Johanna Head had four birdies in her round of 70 to lie five shots behind Inkster. Head, who has never finished inside the top 20 in the US, needs to win the title to get into next week's US Open. "There are a lot of good players up there, including Annika, but I have got nothing to lose," said the 29-year-old, who was second in the Tenerife Open on the Evian European Tour last month. "I'm going to be very positive and hope I can play just as solidly as in the first two rounds and make just a few more putts." Laura Davies moved into the top 15 with a 68 for four-under 138, while Alison Nicholas was another shot back following a 70. Golden, who led by one after a first-round 64, held on to the lead for most of the day. But she double-bogeyed the 17th and was leapfrogged by playing partner Inkster, who birdied the last two holes. Leading second round scores in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Atlantic City (US unless stated, par 71) 132 Juli Inkster 65 67 |
