Seven-up for Sorenstam
Annika Sorenstam
Sorenstam has the US Open in her sights

Sweden's Annika Sorenstam won the Shoprite LPGA Classic title for the second time with a 66 in the final round in Atlantic City.

Three behind overnight, the 31-year-old world number one finished on 12-under-par to win by three shots.

Sharing second place were fellow Swede Carin Koch, and Americans Juli Inkster and Kate Golden.

Golden had led Sorenstam by one with six holes to play, but bogeyed the 15th, 16th and 18th to finish with a 71.

Sorenstam has now won seven times in 13 events this year and looks in good form for this week's US Open in Kansas.

"This was my day and I'll take the momentum into next week," said Sorenstam, who has won the US Open twice before.

Late burst

"The year just seems to get better and better."

Welsh player Becky Morgan had a final round of six-under-par 65 to move through the field.

It was her best score in two years as a professional, and a tie for seventh equalled her best result on the LPGA Tour.

Morgan, who finished third in the Australian Open at the start of the year but has struggled in the US, was delighted with her performance.

"The putts started to go in and everything just seemed to fall into place."

Laura Davies and Johanna Head were the other Britons to finish in the top 10.

Davies had a 69 and Head's 70 gave her a career best performance in the US.

"It's a good way to go into the Open," said Davies after her round, which contained four birdies.

Head did not qualify for the Open but was nevertheless satisfied.

"I've really been struggling in the last few weeks so this is a real bonus.

"But I've kept grinding away and I kept believing that what I was doing was right and it paid off."
