Two-way tie in rainy Memphis
Justin Leonard
Justin Leonard is one shot behind the leading pair

Glen Hnatiuk and Tim Petrovic hit six-under-par 65s to lead after a rain-affected first round of the St Jude Classic in Memphis.

A two-hour delay due to bad weather meant that 78 players were still on the course when darkness fell and they must return at 1215 BST on Saturday to complete their rounds.

One shot behind Canadian Hnatiuk and American Petrovic are a group of five players - Matt Kuchar, Justin Leonard, Garrett Willis, Notah Begay III and David Howser.

Jay Haas is also on five-under after 16 holes.

Deane Pappas, Steve Pate and Doug Barron are two shots off the lead following four-under 67s.

Neither of the two leaders have won on the PGA Tour and the Hnatiuk refused to look too far ahead.

"You can't win a golf tournament on Thursday," he said but added that he would not feel any pressure at heading the field.

"I have no problem looking at the leaderboard and seeing where I am.

Form recaptured

"It would probably bother me more if I didn't look at it at all because I would be wondering anyway," said the 37-year-old, who picked up four shots in the first seven holes.

Petrovic, who has two top-20 finishes on the PGA Tour this season and did not drop a shot in his first round, says he is back to his best ever form.

"Last year was a really good year for me, and this round was probably the closest I've felt to the sort of ball-striking I enjoyed 12 months ago," said the 35-year-old.

"I was just getting up and hitting shots and not having to fool around with it.

"Whatever shot I wanted to hit...I could do it. It was just there."
