| Tuesday, 28 May, 2002, 14:45 GMT 15:45 UK Sorrow at 'death of Dons' Wimbledon supporters oppose the proposed move Wimbledon fans have said the club will mean nothing to them if it moves to Milton Keynes. Dons' chairman Charles Koppel is free to move the Division One club to Milton Keynes following a decision by an independent commission on Tuesday. Wimbledon fans had fought the proposal all the way and held a vigil outside the Football Association headquarters in Soho Square all week.
Marc Jones, spokesman for the Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association, said: "It's pretty sickening. "I've stood and watched Wimbledon since 1979 and now I don't have a club to support any more. "I won't be going to Milton Keynes. It has to be the death of our club. If it moves it will mean nothing to us." Second Division Northampton were also disappointed by the decision. "We are surprised and disappointed at this decision," a statement from the club read. "We now watch the events with a close interest, not just from a personal point of view but for the game of football as know it." |
