Former Baggies chairman Paul Thompson said each player who started a game that the side won in the Premiership would receive a �15,000 bonus.

But the club's new board refused to continue with the scheme, leaving just a few players having signed contracts incorporating it.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said the change in the club's board had left seven of the players with different contracts to the remainder of the squad.

"The previous chairman was looking to do more incentives than basic wages," he said.

"That was not agreed with all of the players, which could mean a two-tier system.

"We have got to try and solve the dispute and see everybody's position.

"Some players were given new deals and others weren't. We have to try and gel those two together."

Wallwork believes he will have to take an 80% cut in bonuses under the guidelines proposed by new chairman Jeremy Peace.

Neil Sillett said: "Ronnie knew there would be changes to the bonus system when he agreed to sign.

"He was happy enough with his basic salary knowing there would be incentives to stay up.

"There will still be win bonuses. However, Ronnie did not think he would end up with an 80% drop on what he thought he was getting.

"Ronnie is shocked and disturbed by what the club have done - and I think it is very cheeky of them.

"I have spoken to Ronnie and he says the players are all united on this one. It is too late on the face of it to do anything about it now.

"One solution maybe would be to re-draw the players' contracts to take this new bonus plan into account."

But Albion continue to defend the new bonus scheme.

Albion spokesman David Bick insisted: "The board are implacable.

"They are not going to move on this. They are not being bloody-minded because this is the right thing to do.

"The deal offered by the previous administration, which a few players have signed, is mindlessly stupid."
