West Brom boss Gary Megson paid tribute to his side's spirit after their draw with fellow relegation strugglers Bolton.

Andy Johnson scored a stoppage-time goal to earn the Baggies a point after Henrik Pedersen had given Bolton the lead.

West Brom are now third from bottom, but only four points behind Bolton.

"In my time here I don't think I have been as proud of my team as I was in the last 45 minutes," said Megson.

"We have played better than that but every single one of them gave it everything they have got. Our never-say die attitude was marvellous.

"As a manager, you can't ask any more from the point of view of endeavour, effort and willingness to win.

"The point we got was scant reward for the way we played after Bolton scored. I thought we let them settle way too easily.

"But we rolled our sleeves up in the second half and were grateful to Russell Hoult for making a save when he was one-on-one on Ricardo Gardner.

"We have hit the inside post, whizzed a couple just past the post and missed some sitters. I thought it was going to be one of those days."

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was livid at seeing his team let in a late goal.

He said: "I am sick of the way we are conceding goals.

"We should have killed the game off before they equalised.

"All you are asking players to do is basic defending, no more than that, and these things are very costly.

"We had a massive opportunity to make our points tally equal with games played and that takes you a long way to safety.

"Instead we had to settle for just the one point, although to be fair to West Brom both sides missed good chances."
