Newman salutes hard work
Rob Newman had nothing but praise for his Southend side after their 2-1 victory over Oxford - their third successive win.

"It was a very, very good performance," Newman said. "Oxford are a resilient side but we did well.

"We're all delighted to get another three points and the run continues. The players' application in the last three games has been outstanding.

"They worked their socks off and when they do that I'm proud to be their manager.

"If every single one of them can carry on playing like that then there's only one way for us to go - we will be successful."
