Diamonds sign Battersby
Former Lincoln striker Tony Battersby
Battersby will initially play for nothing
Third Division promotion hopefuls Rushden and Diamonds have signed striker Tony Battersby on a non-contract basis.

Former Sheffield United and Bury striker Battersby impressed manager Brian Talbot during a recent trial spell and will receive no wages while he looks to earn a permanent deal.

Diamonds' boss Brian Talbot said: "I've asked Tony if we can take a close look at him in our first-team and he has agreed.

"He has played two reserve games and done well. He will play for the club for nothing," Talbot told the club's website.

Battersby, 27, started the season with Lincoln City and then spent three months with Boston before being released by the Pilgrims.
