Tavlaridis in action for Arsenal

Portsmouth have signed Arsenal defender Stathis Tavlaridis on loan for a month.

Pompey defender Arjan de Zeeuw limped out of the New Year's Day clash with Watford and boss Harry Redknapp has quickly moved to bolster his squad.

Tavlaridis, a former Greece Under-21 international, will go straight into the side to face Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.

"We needed to act quickly and have. He's a big, strong lad and a very good player," Redknapp told the club's official website.

The 22-year-old made his Arsenal debut against United in a 4-0 Worthington Cup win for the Gunners last season.
