| Thursday, 11 July, 2002, 15:59 GMT 16:59 UK Lions could become prey Millwall's talented young squad could be cherry-picked after the Lions declared they are ready to sell any player at the right price. Stars such as Richard Sadlier, Steven Reid and Paul Ifill have been linked to big-money moves to top-flight clubs.
Millwall have accepted that manager Mark McGhee could lose players if they receive offers too good to refuse. Club spokesman Dean Standing said: "Here at Millwall we do have a very good squad of talented youngsters. "If we sell a player, Mark McGhee understands this would only be because it would be at a very good price that would give us the chance to bring in several others." Meanwhile, Millwall have learned their fans have been banned from a pre-season friendly at Welsh club Barry Town.
The decision comes follwing the reversal of a ban on Millwall supporters attanding the Division One match at Portsmouth on 14 September. Standing said: "It is South Wales Police who have taken the steps not to allow our fans to travel. "Although we were not likely to have taken many travelling fans to Barry, there were fears trouble would break out. "It is not a big problem for us but unfortunately it is symptomatic of how other clubs perceive Millwall at the moment." |
