The former caretaker England, Leicester, Gillingham and Brighton boss has signed a three-year deal with the Tigers.

And former Leicester boss and England under-21 coach Taylor - who left a coaching role with Peterborough earlier this month - has been handed the task of reviving their fortunes.

Taylor has been waiting for his chance to re-enter management following his decision to leave Brighton after guiding them to promotion from the Second Division last season.

"I know Hull are in Division Three but they are much bigger than that - and everybody knows about the potential there," said Taylor.

"I'll give all the players a chance - but I'll look at the team and see what needs improving.

"I look at Hull and see a lot of potential. They're moving into a new stadium - the pictures look magnificent.

"I'm happy to work in football. It doesn't have to be the Premiership - I'm happy to work somewhere where there will be a positive finish and I want to get Hull much higher."

Hull chairman Adam Pearson said he was impressed by Taylor's two successes in the lower divisions with Brighton and Gillingham.

"He is looking for some stability into his CV and I'm looking to put some stability into the club," said Pearson.

"We've had a massive turnover in players in recent years and we are desperate for some stability.

"But, in the short term, there is a bit of money there for Peter if he wants to bring players in."
