Hull City have completed the signing of Cambridge United midfielder Ian Ashbee.

The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at Boothferry Park after reaching the end of his current contract with the U's.

"Ian is an experienced campaigner and has played a lot of games for Cambridge over the past few years," City's assistant manager Gary Barnett told the club's website.

"He will be a key figure and hopefully he'll settle in straight away as the midfield area will be vital for us this season.

"I think he sees coming to Hull City as a very big challenge because, no disrespect to Cambridge, but they are a smaller club than us and I'm sure Ian will notice the difference.

"I'm sure he'll do a good job for Hull City."

Ashbee started his career at Derby County before moving to Cambridge six seasons ago.

He becomes Jan Molby's fifth close-season signing, joining Greg Strong, John Anderson, Stuart Green and Richie Appleby.
