New Grimsby signing George Santos is convinced the club will survive relegation - despite only picking up five points in their first ten games.

Speaking to BBC Sport Online, Santos said he felt the club's position in no way reflected the talent in the side.

"We try to play good football.

"I'm very surprised Grimsby are at the bottom because they have good young players and a good team."

And he added that he felt last Saturday's win over Brighton would be the catalyst that would lead to much greater things.

"It was a big win so I'm confident for the next couple of games," Santos stated.

"I'm sure we'll just win a couple of games and then be back in the top 15 or 18."

Santos is on a one-month deal with the Mariners which he is hoping to extend.

"We will see at the end of the month," he said.

"It would be great to stay on."
