Sky blues boss Gary McAllister was hoping to sign the former England under-21 in time for Saturday's Division One clash at Rotherham. And Jansen admitted he is looking forward to regular football once again. "I was obviously pleased to hear that several clubs had shown interest," said Jansen. "When I heard that Gary McAllister and Coventry wished to pursue a loan arrangement, I was happy to listen to their proposals. "I am very much looking forward to getting involved." Rovers stressed the move is only a short-term one and his long-term future lies at Ewood Park. Jansen's first-team appearances have been restricted this season after coming back from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while on holiday in pre-season.
Rovers' chief executive John Williams explained that the deal was to assist Jansen in his battle to return to match fitness. "This is a mutually beneficial deal," he told the club's official website. "Whilst it should be very good for Coventry, our number one priority is restoring Matt to full fitness ahead of next season. "His chances of first-team football here are currently restricted, but it is absolutely vital that Matt Jansen gets to play football. "We are already looking forward to welcoming him back to the fold for the next campaign." Meanwhile, Richard Shaw has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Highfield Road until July 2004. The 34-year-old defender is Coventry's longest-serving player. |
