Ricketts sets record straight

Ricketts (left) is concentrating on his football for Bolton
Michael Ricketts says he is determined to get back in Bolton's first team and does not want to leave the Premiership outfit.

Reports in Wednesday's newspapers said Ricketts had handed in a transfer request.

But the out-of-favour striker, who has not scored from open play since January and has become a regular on the Bolton bench, dismissed the rumours.

"I have not asked for a transfer," he told the club's television station.

I am confident not just from penalty spot but from wherever I get a decent opportunity

He said his focus was on ending his barren spell in front of goal for the club.

"I am concentrating on playing football, that's what I am paid to do and what I am trying to do.

"People go through barren spells, mine has just continued a bit longer but I feel I have been a bit sharper recently."

Rickett's only goalscoring success has come from the penalty spot this season and he hopes to improve his all-round game.

"I am confident not just from penalty spot but from wherever I get a decent opportunity. One goal to start me off will be nice. Then I will take it from there."

Bolton meet bottom club West Ham on Saturday on the back of a 3-0 defeat by Leeds on Monday which leaves them firmly in relegation danger.
