| Sunday, 16 February, 2003, 18:34 GMT Tigana in quit threat ![]() Jean Tigana wants to know Fulham's way forward Fulham boss Jean Tigana has threatened to quit the game at the end of the season unless chairman Mohamed Al Fayed outlines the club's future. Tigana revealed he was pondering his future after Fulham were held 1-1 at home by Burnley in the FA Cup fifth round. And he admitted he will only commit to a two-year contract extension even if the club's owner reveals his targets for Fulham, with the club currently playing at QPR's Loftus Road home. Al Fayed has poured more than 100m into the club - but announced a wave of cost-cutting last month. Tigana made his position clear when asked if he would continue in management if he failed to receive assurances at Fulham.
He said: "No - if I leave, I'll stop and start fishing. Five years ago, I said to my wife I'd stop in two years, although I came back with Fulham. "I saw the chairman on Saturday and we had a good conversation. He wants to see me again and I'm always optimistic. "But the priority is the club, not me. The problem is the club's targets.
"Where will we play? Will we still try and build a young team, which is the sort of team I like to manage? I want to know. "So the problem is not me - it's what the club want. It's not finished here and I think the club can progress - but I want to know the exact targets. "If it's not possible to fight the big teams, will we try and build for the long term?" Burnley manager Stan Ternent said his team deserved their result, and said: "We started very well and got an early goal. "We had a good shape and balance. I think it was a fair result, although Fulham had the better of it in the second half." |
