| Sunday, 16 February, 2003, 11:26 GMT Lundekvam eyes FA Cup glory ![]() Southampton's stars have eyes on FA Cup glory Southampton's Claus Lundekvam has FA Cup glory in his sights after Gordon Strachan's resurgent side reached the last eight. Lundekvam was delighted with Southampton's 2-0 win over Norwich City at St Mary's. It leaves Southampton chasing European glory via the Premiership - and closing in on an appearance at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Lundekvam told BBC Sport: "When you get to this stage in the competition you have to believe you can win it. "We've kept things pretty cool and our feet on the ground until now. "But now we're in with as good a shout as anyone.
"It's a great. exciting competition and who wouldn't want to win it. "As kids at home in Norway, we were brought up on English football and the FA Cup. "We all imagined what it would be like to walk out at Wembley in front of a full house. "I don't think I will ever be doing that now, as I think I will be retired by time they build the new Wembley Stadium. "But I would be just as happy to play at the Millenium Stadium. "This is the furthest I have ever got in the Cup. We reached the fifth round a three years ago and got knocked out at Tranmere."
Lundekvam's team-mate Chris Marsden admitted the last thing he wants is to see Southampton's name paired with Arsenal in Monday's draw. And Lundekvam said: "You need your luck in this competition in the draw. "All we want is another home draw. We've been drawn at home in all three rounds so far, so hopefully somebody can do us a favour again. "But when you get to this stage of the competition you have to be courageous.
"You can't worry about who is left in it and who you might draw. "You have to believe you can win it and I wold think there are one or teams out there who wouldn't fancy drawing us." Norwich boss Nigel Worthington said: "It all changed in a spell of four minutes. First Paul (McVeigh) hits the post and then suddenly they've scored twice. "It is disappointing because for 70 minutes we matched them in every department only to make two mistakes for their goals. "Now we've got 16 cup finals to keep up our challenge for promotion and I don't think this result will harm us." |
