West Brom kept their Premiership hopes alive thanks to a last-minute equaliser from substitute Andy Johnson.

Bolton had taken the lead through Henrik Pedersen and looked set to open up a seven-point gap over their relegation rivals.

But Johnson's goal, two minutes into injury-time, earned the home side a vital point, leaving the Baggies just four points behind Bolton with a game in hand.

With so much at stake it was little surprise both teams began nervously.

West Brom dominated the opening spell, but for all their possession created very little.

Jason Roberts had the first decent chance of the day, but his weak shot was comfortably saved by Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

But it was Bolton who took the lead after 18 minutes when goalkeeper Russell Hoult spilled Youri Djorkaeff's effort following a superb 40-yard run by Bernard Mendy.

Pedersen was on hand to tap the ball home for his fifth goal of the season to put the visitors in the driving seat.

Albion almost drew level within minutes when Neil Clement sent in a 25-yard free-kick, only to see his effort drift narrowly wide of the post.

Play swung back up the other end and Ivan Campo should have increased Bolton's lead but he wasted a free header at the back post.

Dichio is brought down by Jaaskelainen

The first half ended in controversy when Jaaskelainen brought down Daniel Dichio on the edge of the area.

The Bolton keeper was only shown a yellow card and referee David Elleray awarded a free-kick, much to the annoyance of Baggies boss Gary Megson.

Derek McInnes played it quickly to Ronnie Wallwork with the keeper out of position but Campo cleared off the line.

West Brom's bad luck continued in the second half, with Roberts wasting the best chance of the game minutes after the restart.

Dichio found Roberts completely unmarked just six yards out, but the striker fluffed his shot, tamely passing the ball straight at Jaaskelainen.

Sean Gregan then saw his long-range effort hit the post and roll across the goal line as West Brom piled on the pressure.

From front to back Bolton were defending vigorously and Sam Allardyce replaced Djorkaeff with Kevin Nolan as the visitors desperately clung on.

But the Baggies finally got their reward for persistence when substitute Johnson latched onto a flick from Moore to beat Jaaskelainen from close range.
