| Saturday, 14 December, 2002, 18:25 GMT Hull 0-1 Darlington Darlington stole the show in the last ever game at Boothferry Park, as Simon Betts' solitary strike sealed the points and sent a bumper Hull crowd home disappointed. In front of more than 14,000 fans, Betts scored the only goal of the game when he arrived at the back post to belt the ball home after Richard Hodgson's cross had evaded the defence. The goal sparked Hull into life and on three occasions Stuart Elliott was denied by Michael Ingham. Darlington skipper Craig Liddle was sent off for a professional foul on Phil Jevons, but still Hull could not break through. John Anderson was the main culprit, fluffing an open goal as Hull suffered their first league defeat under Peter Taylor. Hull: Musselwhite, Regan, Joseph, Anderson, Smith, Green, Ashbee, Melton, Keates, Alexander, Jevons. Subs: Deeney, Elliott, Whittle, Holt, Webb. Darlington: Ingham, Liddle, Clarke, Whitehead, Betts, Nicholls, Keltie, Hodgson, Valentine, Offiong, Conlon. Subs: Pearson, Clark, Mellanby, Wainwright, Porter. Referee: M Warren (W Midlands) |
