Boston 1-0 Swansea

Boston United climbed off the foot of the Third Division table with a slender success over Swansea which puts the Welsh side rock-bottom.

A solitary goal from Simon Weatherstone was enough to separate the sides with the visitors having striker Jamie Wood sent off while Boston fluffed a late penalty.

The first half had seen Boston carve out the better chances with City keeper Roger Freestone having to save well from Neil Redfearn, Steve Burton and Paul Ellender.

In reply, City's responses were more limited. Their best moment saw Wood denied by a brave save from Paul Bastock while a long-range drive by Paul Reid flew straight at the home keeper.

After the break Swansea, who are set to appoint Brian Flynn as their new boss, went close to equalising with efforts just off target from Matt Murphy and James Thomas.

Wood saw red for swinging a punch at Matt Hocking and eight minutes from time Boston should have doubled their lead when Weatherstone had a penalty saved by Freestone after David Theobald had tripped Jamie Cook.

Boston Utd: Bastock, Warburton, Ellender, Rusk, Simon Weatherstone, Redfearn, Gould, Cook, Douglas, Burton, Greaves. Subs: Lodge, Hocking, Ross Weatherstone, Elding, Conroy.

Swansea: Freestone, O'Leary, Theobald, Cusack, Lacey, Murphy, Reid, Howard, Evans, Wood, Thomas. Subs: Marsh, Jenkins, Watkin, Moss, Phillips.

Referee: A Penn (W Midlands).
