Southend 0-2 Kidderminster

Kidderminster stretched their unbeaten run to six matches with a deserved victory over Southend at Roots Hall.

Harriers were always in control and with a little more steadiness in front of goal would have triumphed by a much bigger margin.

But it was not until first-half stoppage time that they broke the deadlock.

Ian Foster's dipping cross from the right was met by Sean Flynn, who sent in a powerful header beyond the reach of goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan to score his first goal for the club following his summer move from Tranmere.

Four minutes into the second half, the visitors struck again.

On this occasion Flynn was the provider, releasing John Melligan with a superb pass for the midfielder to race forward and unleash a low shot just inside the post.

It was Melligan's first goal for the club in his second appearance while on loan from Wolves.

Southend were a disappointment and the only time Kidderminster goalkeeper Stuart Brock was tested was when Mark Rawle got in a powerful drive from the edge of the box which he dealt with comfortably.

It was Kidderminster who always looked more likely to stretch their lead and Foster and Flynn went close in the closing minutes.

Southend: Flahavan, Beard, Cort, Broad, Searle, Clark, Maher, Smith, Jenkins, Jones, Rawle. Subs: Gay, Maye, Belgrave, Whelan, Thurgood.

Kidderminster: Brock, Foster, Hinton, Ayres, Clyde, Shilton, Williams, Flynn, Melligan, Broughton, Henriksen. Subs: Danby, Bennett, Doyle, Joy, Lower.

Referee: J Ross (London).
