| Tuesday, 17 September, 2002, 21:29 GMT 22:29 UK Hull 1-3 Macclesfield Hull succumbed to a stirring second-half fightback as Macclesfield ran out comfortable winners at Boothferry Park. City snatched the lead after 16 minutes when Stuart Green played a neat one-two with Phil Jevons and ran on to slot the ball under former Hull goalkeeper Steve Wilson from 10 yards. However, Jan Molby's side never looked comfortable and, after Andy Welsh came desperately close to putting Town back on terms, team-mate Matthew Tipton hit the woodwork from a tight angle. In the opening seconds of the second half Michael Welch let fly with a screaming 40-yard drive which ripped into the top corner to put the visitors level. And things soon went from bad to worse for Hull. Former City striker Kyle Lightbourne took advantage of an inexplicable mix-up between goalkeeper Matt Glennon and defender Justin Whittle to slot the ball into an open net. Substitute John Askey rounded off the comeback in the final minute by poking the ball home after clever play by Neil Robinson. Hull: Glennon, Regan, Anderson, Whittle, Smith, Green, Ashbee, Keates, Williams, Alexander, Jevons. Subs: Edwards, Dudfield, Musselwhite, Bradshaw, Johnson. Macclesfield: Wilson, Tinson, Ridler, Welch, Hitchen, Whitaker, Priest, Welsh, Adams, Lightbourne, Tipton. Subs: Martin, Hardy, Askey, Munroe, Robinson. Referee: B Curson (Leicestershire). |
